"What was in the way became the way."

Anna Navarro was following her heart when she opened Work Transitions more than 20 years ago. On a career path that included responsible positions in prestigious organizations, her work was challenging but not satisfying. So in 1980, Anna quit her job and set out on a journey to find fulfilling work. The result was that she not only found her own way, she also developed a process that would prove to be helpful to others as well. She started Work Transitions in 1982, after a year of extensively testing the methods she had utilized for herself to be sure they would work for others.

Work Transitions is a nationwide organization that works one-on-one with people to help them make career choices that will bring greater pleasure and fulfillment into their lives. As a career strategist, Anna works with a wide range of clients -- like lawyers, doctors, chief executives, teachers and business people at all levels -- who share the desire to develop a satisfying career that is compatible with their other life priorities. Their common bond is that they are seekers looking for work with greater satisfaction and meaning.

Anna is a commentator for National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" in St. Louis. She also writes a career column for the St. Louis Business Journal.

In addition, Anna trains career strategists and licenses them to apply the Work Transitions process as independent practitioners. There are Work Transitions career strategists in St. Louis, New York, Portland (Oregon), Austin (Texas) and Chicago.

Anna was one of the first women to graduate from Princeton University where she earned a master's degree in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs in 1969. Prior to that, she received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from New College in Sarasota, Florida. She is a native of Havana, Cuba.

Prior to forming Work Transitions, Anna's career highlights include:

• Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Monsanto Company. (1976-1980)

• Vice President and Partner of Fleishman-Hillard, Inc., currently the largest public relations agency in the world. (1972-1976)

• Director of Political Polling for the Democratic presidential frontrunner, Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine. (1970-1972)
