Frequently Asked Questions:

How does the process work?
It is individually tailored to your needs, but it usually starts by defining the characteristics of your ideal work situation. During the next step we translate your ideal characteristics into a specific goal. That is usually followed by turning that goal into reality. This latter step can involve job hunting, starting or buying a business, getting more education, or reshaping your current job to get more satisfaction from it. But where you start and what you do depends on your personal situation. (See "Work Transitions Services")

How long does the process take?

That varies widely with the individual but on average, it takes six months to a year. Sometimes the whole process can be done very intensely in a month or two, other times on-the-job coaching can last several years. It all depends on your needs.

How often do you meet with clients?
Most people choose to do two sessions a month but that varies greatly with the individual. For out-of-town clients, we begin with ten sessions in three days and continue the process with regular telephone consultation.

Are there any contracts?
No. We charge by the session and ask that you pay us at the end of each meeting.

Do you work individually or in groups?
We work primarily with individuals. However, we do work with couples and groups by special arrangement.

What are the expected outcomes? Outcomes vary widely. In some instances, people find jobs in dramatically different fields, like a cardiologist who became an executive search consultant. In other instances they start businesses. For example, a stockbroker chose to become an inner city real estate developer. Sometimes people go back to school, or they learn how to reshape their existing work to find more satisfaction and fulfillment. Since 1990, we have been surveying clients by mail to gauge overall performance and satisfaction with our services. On anonymous feedback forms, more than 98% said the services they received were worth the time, money and effort they invested.

Are there assignments between meetings? Doing assignments saves time in session and therefore saves money. During the self-assessment stage you can do assignments between sessions or not, as you choose. We will accommodate your preference. During the research and implementation stages of the work, doing work on your own between sessions is a must.

Does Work Transitions do job placement? No. We help people figure out what kind of work they want to do and then teach them how to find or create that kind of work situation for themselves. We form a supportive partnership and provide tools to individuals so they can help themselves.

Will I be working with Anna Navarro?
If you select Anna as your career strategist, then all of your sessions will be with her. Some people choose to work with other career strategists who have been personally selected and trained by Anna. You will always work with the same person.

Do you do career testing?
No. Using your personal experience as the guide, we help you define what you need, and want from work and what you have to offer. We use this analysis to create a strategic career direction. This approach has proven more helpful to our clients than career tests.
